The sun was setting behind the mountains, the normal pinks and purples were there. He paid no attention to the all the beauty spread across the desert sky. “I have seen it all before,” he thought, “why are all of you in awe of something that happens at the end of each day?” He tried not to let everyone around him get on his nerves, he was losing the fight.

He and what seemed like millions more came to the open desert sky to watch the fable meteor shower. It was something that was told to be as if each star in the night sky would fall. No one knew where all the meteors were coming. It was a once in a hundred generation type of thing, loving the night sky he did not want to miss it.

All around him were people being loud, ruining the feeling of the air. He felt as if he could feel their breath on him and he could smell each one of their bad breath. It sickened him how he felt like he was swimming in an ocean of body odor. “What is wrong with these people?’ he quietly spoke under his breath. He did his best to ignore them, some families brought children, the one thing that always drove him to break.

“Why bring these little loud running annoying things to this place?” he muttered a little too loud. One mother heard him and gave him an evil death glare. He response was to gesture with both arms to her child at it throw food and trash all over the place. The mother quickly gathered her child up and left the man to his own thing.

He walked back to his camp wondering why he every left. “That’s right, I might hate them but I still feel the need to always remind myself why I live alone away from each one.” He said. He looked down at his watch to see what time it was, “soon the shower will start. I cannot wait. I just wish all these things would shut up so I could enjoy the peacefulness of this event.” He knew if he said anything they would boo him and get louder causing him to leave. “Why should I leave?” He thought even though nothing has happened to him yet. “I was the first at this spot, they should leave or at least give me more space. They came out of nowhere and crowded me. They are ruining this whole night, maybe they will shut up when it all starts.” He hoped.

He was busy bad mouthing all around him when he heard the first disgusting person make a noise of astonishment. He looked up and swore he could see it breath slink out from behind the yellow teeth and gums full of food. The breath was vile, he watched as it made its way over to his nostrils where he had two choices, either open his mouth and taste it, or take it in his nose and smell it. Of course he could hold his breath but he would have to hold it until he died, “I am not giving them the satisfaction of my death.” He said, as he spoke he tasted the breath of the disgusting thing spoke up.

In pain and nauseas he tilted his head up, that is when he noticed he was missing the entire reason he came out here and put up with the annoying flesh things around him. For a moment he forgot of those around him, to him he was the only one out in the desert taking in this sight. That did not last long when he felt the breath of them all invade his camp sight. He almost hurled when he felt the heat from their combined lungs. Exhaling and then inhaling the same air only to let it all out much worse. He had to leave and find a better spot, which meant walking past them all.

He summoned up the courage after he heard them not shutting up. He was not going to let them ruin this moment for him. He put his things in his truck and locked it, “I am not giving them any chance to steal from me.” He said as he walked out of sight of the things that made him so ill.

He carefully stepped over the littler they all made. He carefully held his breath when he had to get close to one. He managed to hold back his last meal when he found two of them making so called love behind a large rock. “It seems this horrible things are everywhere!” he growled. “They invaded my desert home are destroying it with their presence.”

He kept walking until he was atop a small outcropping of rocks. He stood up and looked before him, lights from what seemed like a thousand trailers glowed, behind him was the same view. “How do they even see the stars with all those comforts of home?” He said. “I don’t know.” Said a small voice aside him. The man startled glared down at this little annoyance. “What are you doing here?” The man bellowed in a low mad voice. “We couldn’t see the falling stars,” the small child said. “We!” The man said a little scared to ask how many we meant. “Yes, we,” the child started to point to many other children all looking up at the night sky.

The man was on the urge of giving up and letting them all win. “No I cannot let them take this away from me.” He thought. “So what is there are children here, at least they are quite and their breath does not always flow above their small stature.” The small child tugged at his pant leg. “What are you going to wish for?” the child asked. “What?” the man was a little dumbfounded by this question. “What are you going to wish for?” the child repeated. “You are supposed to wish on falling stars.”

The man completely forgot that is what one does with falling stars. He looked around and noticed children were either running around trying to catch the perfect star, or were silently wishing with their eyes closed as tight as they could be. Each child had their own ritual for making their wishes be heard to the falling star. “What are you going to wish for?” The child asked. The man looked down at the curios child. “If I told you, it wouldn’t come true.” The man said with a smile. The child smiled back and ran after a falling star to make a wish.

The man looked back up at the night sky, no longer hearing the crowd below him. He could not feel the heat from them all, or smell their breath. He didn’t see falling stars anymore, no they were wishes and they were taking flight. They did not come from the galaxy above him but from the small minds all around world. Each glowing wish flying by was born when a child made a wish.

The man bowed his head and closed his eyes. In his mind he made a wish, a smile broke across his face. His heart filled up and a tear fell from his cheek. The tear rose up toward the night sky becoming a wish. He sat down on the rock looking up at his wish and all the other wishes. He watched the sky and listened to the children wish all night long. In the morning the children were gone, and he was at work, but their wishes still were flying high in the heavens awaiting for their wishers to catch them and make each come true.

Awesome work.  I like the descriptiveness of all of this, and I like the idea overall.  The imagery is beautiful!
